After many months of preparation, NFTRA will open our gates to a smaller program starting Tuesday September 15th!
We have created an extensive safety plan and a few supporting documents that all participants will receive prior to starting back as a volunteer or as a rider. All participants will also be required to sign an additional waiver regarding participation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The schedule is light…unfortunately only approximately 1/3 of our regular riders will be returning. This plan is to ensure that we take the utmost care to not over burden our staff, or our horses after such a long break. The extra time in the schedule will allow us room to grow through the pandemic and most importantly, time to clean and sanitize between lessons in order to keep everyone as safe as possible.
Life at NFTRA has been tough, but the Board and the staff and a very limited number of volunteers have all buckled down and gotten us through. We are very proud of what we have accomplished while we were closed to the public and we are VERY EXCITED to welcome you back to the program. Hopefully in the not too distant future, we will be able to welcome all the riders back with a return to our normal schedule. In the meantime, we will do what we can for as many as we can and hope that you will join us in our “new normal”.
A big THANK YOU to everyone that kept in touch with notes, emails, FB messages, donations etc. These little tokens of support has helped to keep us all going!
The North Fraser Therapeutic Riding Association (NFTRA), an Accredited CanTRA Examination Centre, has been providing therapeutic riding in Maple Ridge for over 40 years; servicing all communities north of the Fraser River from West Vancouver to Mission. With over 80 adults and children receiving weekly therapeutic riding lessons in four sessions per year, we heavily rely on up to 100 volunteers per week to successfully run the program.
NFTRA has an operating budget of over $335,000. It is an ongoing challenge to meet our annual budget in order to continue providing this unique and unparalleled form of therapy. It is only through the generosity of our donors and sponsors, that we are able to do so for an ever growing number of individuals in need.
